Allergic rhinitis Board decisions

The Veteran's service connection claim for alcohol use disorder is granted. The claims for bilateral hearing loss, chronic fatigue syndrome, dermatosis of the face, neck, and arms, and chronic sinusitis are denied. Service connection for PTSD is granted at a maximum rating. Service connection for irritable bowel syndrome and hypertension is denied. Service connection for allergic rhinitis is denied.

The Veteran's claims for service connection for chronic sinusitis and a compensable rating for chronic rhinitis are denied. The claim for a disability rating of 20 percent for service-connected dry eye syndrome is granted, but the Board has remanded his claim seeking service connection for obstructive sleep apnea.

The Veteran's claims for increased ratings and service connection have been denied. The Board found no new evidence to reopen the previously denied GERD and low back disability claims, but granted a higher rating of 10% for right knee PFPS from July 26, 2017.

The Veteran's service-connected disabilities, including obstructive sleep apnea and multiple musculoskeletal conditions, rendered him unable to secure or follow substantially gainful employment. His TDIU is granted, but his special monthly compensation at the housebound rate is denied due to the presence of additional service-connected disabilities.

The Board has restored a 10 percent rating for allergic rhinitis effective May 29, 2024. The Veteran's symptoms have improved since the last examination, but they still cause some impairment under ordinary conditions of life and work.

The Board has dismissed the Veteran's claims for service connection for respiratory insufficiency dyspnea, obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), cardiac arrhythmia, and chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) as they have already been granted by a previous VA rating decision.,The Board has also dismissed the Veteran's claim for a compensable rating for allergic rhinitis due to lack of evidence showing greater than 50 percent obstruction of nasal passage on both sides or complete obstruction on one side.

The Veteran's appeal for SMC on account of being housebound was dismissed. The Board granted SMC based on the need for regular aid and attendance of another person, finding that he requires assistance with various daily activities due to his service-connected disabilities.
