Osteoarthritis (degenerative arthritis) Board decisions

The Board has granted service connection for left knee osteoarthritis and awarded a 10 percent rating for degenerative disc disease of the lumbar spine. The Veteran's disability ratings are based on their specific manifestations, with no separate ratings assigned for pain or neurologic abnormalities.

The Veteran's service-connected left lower extremity radiculopathy has been rated as 20 percent disabling since December 3, 2014.,Prior to December 3, 2014, the Veteran was granted a 20 percent rating for degenerative disc disease with intervertebral disc displacement L4-L5. Since then, he is rated at 40 percent.,The Veteran's right knee disability has been rated as 10 percent disabling since February 9, 2009 and increased to 20 percent effective December 3, 2014. The Veteran is not entitled to a higher rating for this condition.,The Veteran's left knee laxity was initially granted a 10 percent rating from February 9, 2009. Since then, he has been rated at 10 percent.

The Board has reopened the Veteran's claim for service connection for a low back disability, as new and material evidence has been received. However, the claim remains denied as there is no competent medical evidence linking the current degenerative arthritis of the spine to service.,The Veteran's claim for service connection for a right shoulder disability was also denied in July 1978. The Board found that there is no evidence of an in-service injury or disease related to his current condition, and the current findings are not linked to service.

The Veteran's PTSD is currently rated at 70 percent, effective July 24, 2006. The Board has also granted a TDIU for the period from February 18, 2012 to January 2013.

The Veteran's appeals for service connection for traumatic brain injury and a sleep disorder were withdrawn. The Board granted higher ratings for right and left knee disabilities, including scars.,Headaches prior to June 20, 2014 are rated at 30 percent.
