Diabetes decisions — 2022

The Veteran's claims for increased disability evaluations for diabetes mellitus, Type-II with erectile dysfunction and peripheral neuropathy of the upper extremities have been denied. The Board found that the evidence did not support a higher rating than 20 percent for diabetes mellitus, and denied the other claims.

The Veteran's service-connected disabilities aided in his death, and the Board has granted service connection for cause of death.

The Board has remanded the claims for service connection for diabetes mellitus, type II and ischemic heart disease due to potential herbicide exposure in Korea.

The Board denied service connection for a left knee disorder and diabetes mellitus type II, finding that the disorders were not incurred or related to military service.

The Veteran's initial disability rating for diabetic retinopathy with epiretinal membrane, posterior vitreous detachment with diplopia has been granted at a 20 percent level since June 29, 2017.

The Board has decided to remand the cases for additional development and examination, as requested by the Veteran. The issues of initial compensable evaluation for service-connected DM and increased evaluation for PFB are being returned to the agency of original jurisdiction (AOJ) for further action.
