Diabetes Board decisions

The Board has denied a request for an earlier effective date for diabetes mellitus and has remanded the issue of service connection for sleep apnea syndromes secondary to diabetes mellitus.

The Veteran's claims for service connection for diabetes mellitus, type II and hypertension (claimed as secondary to diabetes mellitus) were denied. His claim for an initial compensable rating for bilateral hearing loss was also denied. The Board found no new and material evidence to reopen his previously denied claim for diabetes mellitus, type II. Service connection for peripheral vascular disease was not established. The Veteran's TDIU claim is remanded.

The Board has denied service connection for thyroid nodules, heart disability, infertility, diabetes mellitus, headaches, and memory loss. The issues of service connection for a heart disability, infertility, diabetes mellitus, headaches, and memory loss are REMANDED.

The Board has remanded two issues: service connection for a lumbar spine disability secondary to the Veteran's service-connected right knee amputation disability and service connection for type II diabetes mellitus, which is either secondary to his service-connected right below and above the knee amputation disability or related to his lumbar spine disability.

The Board has decided to remand the case due to insufficient medical opinion regarding whether the Veteran's hypertension is related to service or secondary to his service-connected DMII. A new VA examination is needed to address these issues.

The Board has granted the Veteran's claims to reopen for service connection for type 2 diabetes mellitus, right foot peripheral neuropathy, left foot peripheral neuropathy, and right leg peripheral neuropathy. However, on de novo consideration, these conditions are not found to be related to his military service.

The Veteran's claim for a higher rating for his service-connected diabetes mellitus is being remanded due to insufficient evidence of its severity over the relevant period.

The Veteran's service-connected disabilities have rendered him unable to secure and follow a substantially gainful occupation, but he does not meet the schedular criteria for a TDIU. The case is being remanded for consideration of extraschedular TDIU.

The Board has decided to remand the case due to insufficient evidence regarding the current severity of the Veteran's diabetes mellitus. The Veteran needs to provide updated VA treatment records and undergo a new VA examination.

The Veteran's type II diabetes mellitus is granted as due to exposure to herbicide agents, and a disability rating of 70 percent for PTSD is granted.

The Board has determined that the Veteran's claims for PTSD, headaches, hypertension, and Type II diabetes mellitus are remanded due to incomplete VA clinical documentation. The effective dates for service connection remain unchanged.

The Veteran's diabetes mellitus II, Charcot’s arthropathy, left foot deformity, diabetic retinopathy, diabetic foot ulcer, kidney condition, and diabetic bilateral lower extremity neuropathy are all granted service connection. The loss of use of creative organ, hypertension, acquired psychiatric disability, and dental conditions are remanded for further development.

The Veteran's service connection claims for diabetes mellitus, peripheral neuropathy, heart disease, hypertension, sleep apnea, cervical spine disability, low back/lumbar spine disability, right shoulder, knee, ankle, and/or foot disabilities, and psychiatric disorder have all been denied as there is no evidence of these conditions in service or within one year post-service. The Veteran's assertions regarding his current diagnoses are not credible.

The Board has decided to remand the case due to insufficient information regarding whether olanzapine, a medication for service-connected schizophrenia, contributed to the Veteran's death by cardiac arrest. The VA is required to obtain and review any relevant VA treatment records from December 2007 through March 2012.

The Board has remanded the claim of service connection for stroke residuals as secondary to coronary artery disease and/or diabetes mellitus due to incomplete examination reports and conflicting opinions.

The Veteran's TDIU and Chapter 35 educational benefits were granted for the period from March 24, 2011 to July 19, 2013 due to his service-connected disabilities.

The Veteran's diabetic neuropathy of the left and right lower extremities was granted an initial rating of 20 percent prior to July 25, 2011. A TDIU was also granted.

Service connection for a right shoulder disorder, diabetes mellitus, type II, and kidney disorder is denied.,The Veteran's right shoulder disorder was not shown to be related to service. Diabetes mellitus, type II, did not manifest within one year of service discharge and is not caused by his service-connected knee disability. The Veteran's kidney disorder is also not shown to be related to service or due to diabetes mellitus.,The evidence does not establish a direct relationship between the Veteran’s conditions and his military service.

The Board denied service connection for erectile dysfunction claimed as secondary to diabetes mellitus type II and also denied special monthly compensation based on loss of use of a creative organ. The Veteran's erectile dysfunction is not related to his service-connected diabetes mellitus type II, and he does not have loss of use of a creative organ due to a service-connected disability.
