GERD (acid reflux) Board decisions

The Veteran's GERD is granted as secondary to his service-connected migraines and/or psychiatric disability.

The Veteran's service-connected gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) has been granted an initial rating of 60 percent, effective March 10, 2020. The criteria for this rating have been met based on the severity of symptoms and impairment to health.

The Board denied service connection for a gastrointestinal disorder, specifically gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), as there is no evidence of a current disability.

The Board has granted service connection for migraine headaches, obstructive sleep apnea, and bilateral restless leg syndrome as secondary to the Veteran's service-connected posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

The Board has decided to remand the Veteran's claim for service connection for GERD due to potential toxic exposure in service, as per the PACT Act. A VA medical opinion is needed to determine if GERD was caused by such exposure.

The Veteran's sleeping disability, characterized as sleep disturbance, is granted on a secondary basis due to his service-connected GERD.,An effective date of June 8, 2020, for the award of service connection for radiculopathy of the sciatic nerve of the right lower extremity is granted.

The Veteran's IBS with GERD is rated at a 30 percent disability rating, effective from June 22, 2016.
