Gulf War illness / chronic multisymptom decisions — 2015

The Board has remanded the case due to inadequate examination and failure to comply with VA Training Letter 10-01. The Veteran's claim of service connection for memory loss as due to an undiagnosed illness is being reviewed.

The Board has granted service connection for chronic fatigue syndrome as due to an undiagnosed illness, effective March 1, 2002. The Veteran's claim for a higher disability rating for fibromyalgia was denied in July 2008 and the effective date of this award is set at August 27, 2007.

The Veteran's right thorax muscular pain is presumed to be due to an undiagnosed illness, while his right thigh disorder (residuals of spider bite) does not meet the criteria for service connection.

The Veteran's appeal was denied as he does not have a current sinus disorder separate from his service-connected sinus surgery with nasal septum perforation. His PTSD is rated at the maximum available rating, and no higher initial ratings are warranted.

The Board denied service connection for sinus disability and gastrointestinal disability, both of which were characterized as due to undiagnosed illness or other qualifying chronic disabilities.,The Veteran's claims were reopened based on new evidence submitted by him.

The Board has remanded the case for further development, including obtaining VA treatment records and scheduling a new examination. The Veteran's claim will be reconsidered based on the additional evidence.
