PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) decisions — 2024

The Veteran's PTSD resulted in total social and occupational impairment from March 23, 2011 to September 14, 2017. An initial 100 percent rating for PTSD is granted effective March 23, 2011.

The Board has granted the restoration of service connection for six disabilities: left upper leg gunshot wound, left forearm gunshot wound, entry and exit wounds associated with lumbar spine injuries, paralumbar muscles injury, PTSD, and left knee osteoarthritis. The original grant was based on direct evidence rather than a presumption or secondary condition.

The Veteran's PTSD with Panic Disorder has resulted in occupational and social impairment with occasional decrease in work efficiency and intermittent periods of inability to perform tasks, but generally functioning satisfactorily.

The Veteran's claim for service connection for an acquired psychiatric disorder other than PTSD has been denied.,The effective date for the Veteran's service-connected PTSD is denied as it does not meet the criteria prior to May 22, 2013.

The Veteran's appeal for a higher rating for his PTSD, alcohol use disorder, and traumatic brain injury has been withdrawn by the Veteran's representative.

The Veteran's PTSD disability has been primarily manifested by anxiety, depressed mood, hypervigilance, disturbances in motivation and mood, and flattened affect. The Board granted a 50 percent rating for PTSD.

The Veteran's PTSD makes him unable to secure or follow a substantially gainful occupation due to his symptoms and the impact on his work history.

The Veteran's PTSD is rated at 70 percent effective from January 10, 2022. A separate 10 percent disability rating for the neurocognitive disorder due to another medical condition is granted.

The Veteran's chronic sinusitis/nasal polyposis, PTSD, and OSA have been granted service connection. The Veteran is also receiving a 70 percent rating for his PTSD and special monthly compensation at the housebound rate.

The Veteran's left lower extremity radiculopathy is now rated at 40 percent, effective March 19, 2021.,The Veteran's right lower extremity radiculopathy is now rated at 40 percent, effective March 19, 2021. Service connection for hypertension, diabetes mellitus, CAD, PTSD, sleep apnea, and headaches are all granted.

The Veteran's claim for service connection for PTSD with major depressive disorder and cocaine use disorder was granted, effective July 21, 2009. The decision is based on the correction of a CUE in an earlier administrative decision that incorrectly characterized his second period of active duty as dishonorable.
