PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) decisions — 2024

The Veteran's claim for a 100 percent evaluation of PTSD with bipolar disorder and cannabis use disorder was granted effective January 27, 2022. The effective date is set at September 21, 2021, based on the receipt of an intent to file a supplemental claim.

The Veteran's claims for earlier effective dates of March 25, 2009 for service connection of PTSD and May 16, 2019 for TDIU benefits are granted. The Veteran also received an earlier effective date of March 25, 2009 for Dependents' Educational Assistance (DEA) benefits.

The Board has decided to remand the claim for service connection of PTSD due to insufficient evidence regarding the claimed in-service stressors. The Veteran will be given another opportunity to provide details and the VA will attempt to verify them.

The Veteran's PTSD is rated at 70 percent prior to June 12, 2018. From March 29, 2011, the Veteran meets the criteria for a TDIU rating.

The Veteran's service-connected disabilities, including coronary artery disease, posttraumatic stress disorder, and right hip conditions, rendered him unemployable as of August 30, 2015. The Board granted an effective date for the TDIU award on this date.

The Board has remanded the case due to conflicting medical opinions regarding the Appellant's service connection for a psychiatric disorder, specifically PTSD. Additional clarification is needed through another VA examination.

The AOJ is instructed to provide a detailed accounting and determine if Full Sail University is partially liable.

The Veteran's PTSD did not manifest in total occupational and social impairment from July 17, 2020.,For the rating period from January 20, 2010, service-connected disabilities have not prevented the Veteran from obtaining (following) or retaining (maintaining) substantially gainful employment.

The Veteran's PTSD is granted a 70 percent rating, effective August 18, 2016. The claim for TDIU was dismissed as moot.

The Board has granted service connection for PTSD. The cases of OSA and headaches are remanded due to the need for additional medical examinations.

The Board has found that additional development is needed prior to final adjudication of the remaining issues on appeal, including obtaining clarification of the Veteran's periods of employment and any outstanding treatment records.

The Veteran's acquired psychiatric disorders to include PTSD resulted in total occupational and social impairment from June 29, 2010. The Board granted an initial increased rating of 100 percent for PTSD effective June 29, 2010.

The Veteran's service-connected conditions have made it necessary for him to rely on the aid and attendance of another person since March 30, 2016. The Board has granted SMC based on this need.

The Veteran's heart block is granted as secondary to service-connected sleep apnea, hypertension, and PTSD. The issue of a heart disability other than those already service connected is remanded.

The Veteran's PTSD is granted a 100 percent initial rating effective August 31, 2021. The appeal for an earlier effective date for the 100 percent rating is dismissed.

The Board has granted the Veteran's claim for service connection for an acquired psychiatric disability, to include PTSD, effective from March 5, 2020. The decision finds that it is approximately as likely as not related to his combat experience in active duty.

The Veteran's claim for an earlier effective date for the initial rating of 10% for service-connected cognitive disorder, NOS was dismissed as there is no jurisdiction to consider this issue due to a final Board decision.
