PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) Board decisions

The Board has remanded the claim for a total disability rating based on individual unemployability (TDIU) due to service-connected PTSD because of the need for additional development, including obtaining updated employment information and reassessing the severity of the Veteran's PTSD.

The Board has remanded the case due to conflicting medical opinions regarding the onset and cause of the Veteran's OSA. The VA needs to obtain additional records and conduct a new examination to determine if OSA is secondary to his service-connected PTSD.

The Board has remanded the case due to insufficient reasons for denying an increased disability rating for PTSD prior to February 9, 2018. The Veteran needs additional VA treatment records and a new VA examination.

The Veteran's service-connected disabilities did not prevent him from securing or following substantially gainful employment prior to December 31, 2006.

The Veteran's PTSD is rated at 70 percent, but no higher, for the appeal period from September 8, 2020. The issue of entitlement to an initial rating in excess of 50 percent prior to September 8, 2020, and in excess of 70 percent from September 8, 2020, for service-connected PTSD was denied.

The Veteran's claims for increased ratings were denied. The Board found that the Veteran did not meet the criteria for higher ratings in any of his conditions, including PTSD with alcohol abuse.

Your TDIU appeal for the period from October 21, 2021 is dismissed because a separate decision granted you a TDIU effective from June 30, 2017.

The Veteran's claim for an initial rating of 70 percent for his acquired psychiatric disorder, including PTSD and generalized anxiety disorder is granted. The Veteran's claim for a compensable rating for bilateral hearing loss prior to December 12, 2019 is remanded. The Veteran's claim for TDIU is also remanded.

The Veteran's appeal is remanded for additional examinations and opinions to determine the nature of his heart condition, PTSD, asthma, and sleep apnea, as well as their relationship to service. The hearing loss claim remains denied.

The Veteran's PTSD was rated at 50% since December 31, 2012. The Board has granted an earlier effective date of December 31, 2012 for the assignment of a 70 percent disability rating.

The Veteran is granted a 70 percent rating for PTSD, effective from the date of his intent to file on November 28, 2016. The Board found that his symptoms most closely approximated occupational and social impairment with deficiencies in most areas but did not meet total occupational and social impairment.

The Veteran's appeal was dismissed due to his death, and the Board has no jurisdiction to adjudicate the merits of this appeal at this time.

The Veteran's claim for a higher rating for his service-connected PTSD is being remanded due to the inadequacy of the previous VA examination report.

The Veteran's PTSD is now rated at 100 percent effective October 18, 2019. He also received SMC based on service-connected disabilities for the entire period.

The Veteran's claims for higher ratings on multiple service-connected conditions are being remanded to the RO/AMC for further development and consideration.,Issues include scars of the left abdomen, scar of the posterior trunk (back), residuals status post gunshot wound to the abdomen, residuals status post gunshot wound to the lower back, PTSD, tinnitus, lumbosacral strain, and left lower extremity radiculopathy.

The Veteran's PTSD is currently rated at a 70 percent disability rating from March 17, 2010 to July 10, 2018. The symptoms include depressed mood, suicidal ideation, social isolation, and problems with anger control.

The Board has determined that additional development is needed to determine the etiology of the Veteran's sleep apnea, including whether it is related to service or aggravated by his service-connected conditions.
