PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) Board decisions

The Board denied an effective date prior to June 1, 2004, for the grant of service connection for PTSD due to a lack of evidence showing that the Veteran filed a formal or informal claim after the May 1983 rating decision but before June 1, 2004.

The Veteran's PTSD, bilateral hearing loss, and tinnitus were not found to be related to service. The claims for these conditions have been denied.

The Board has remanded several issues for further development and examination. The Veteran's appeal of the remaining issues is dismissed due to withdrawal by the Veteran.

The Board has found that the issues of service connection for a psychiatric disorder, to include PTSD, and entitlement to TDIU are inextricably intertwined and therefore remanded. The case is being returned to the RO for further development.

The Veteran is required to provide additional medical records, and a comprehensive physical and mental health examination will be conducted to determine if any of the claimed conditions are related to his military service.

The Board has remanded the claims for an acquired psychiatric disorder and a traumatic brain injury due to inadequate examinations. The Veteran is required to undergo new VA examinations to determine the nature and etiology of his claimed conditions.

The Veteran's appeal for an increased rating for PTSD was withdrawn. The Board has granted service connection for a thoracolumbar spine disability, finding the evidence in approximate balance regarding its etiology.

The Veteran's PTSD symptoms have most nearly approximated total social and occupational impairment for the entire period on appeal, resulting in a grant of a 100% rating for PTSD beginning July 24, 2018. The TDIU was granted from March 25, 2013 to April 12, 2018.

The Veteran's claims for service connection and a higher rating for his left knee disability are being remanded. The reduction of the 10 percent rating for the residuals of left knee meniscectomy effective January 1, 2019 is restored.
