PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) Board decisions

The Board has remanded several issues related to the Veteran's PTSD, migraine headaches, TDIU claim, Dependents' Educational Assistance eligibility, and special monthly compensation based on housebound status. The claims are being remanded due to a lack of updated examinations for PTSD and migraines, as well as an incomplete VA opinion regarding service connection for obstructive sleep apnea.

The Veteran's claim for an increased initial rating of PTSD was granted, with a 50% disability rating effective May 30, 2013. The claims for TDIU were remanded.

The Veteran's PTSD is rated at 70 percent from January 27, 2016 to January 7, 2021. The disability rating for PTSD has not been increased beyond this level.

The Veteran's service-connected disabilities have rendered him unable to obtain and maintain substantially gainful employment, and the Board has granted a TDIU.

The Veteran's claim for service connection of porphyria cutanea tarda was dismissed. The Board granted an initial rating of 70% for PTSD, effective January 7, 2010.

The Veteran's PTSD with panic attacks is granted an initial 70 percent evaluation, effective July 27, 2015.

The Board denied the Veteran's claim for service connection for an acquired psychiatric disorder, finding that there is no current diagnosis of a psychiatric disability.

The Veteran's PTSD symptoms have not resulted in total occupational and social impairment, but they do cause significant impairment. The Board denies a disability rating in excess of 70 percent for PTSD.

The Veteran's TDIU claim from May 18, 2016 is granted. The issue of TDIU prior to May 18, 2016 is remanded for further review by the Director of Compensation and Pension Services.

The Veteran's lumbar spine disability is granted, and her PTSD is rated at 50% effective from the date of claim (March 20, 2015). The issues of increased rating for PTSD and service connection for a gynecological disorder are remanded.

The Veteran's claims for PTSD with major depressive disorder, fibromyalgia, and bilateral elbow conditions have been granted. The right and left medial and lateral epicondylitis claims are being reconsidered.

The Board denied service connection for PTSD, anxiety, and adjustment disorder with depression as there was no valid diagnosis of PTSD at any time during the appeal period. The Veteran's anxiety and adjustment disorder were not found to be related to his military service.

The Veteran's PTSD with depressive disorder and alcohol abuse is granted an initial evaluation of 70 percent, effective from the date of the decision. The left knee disability remains at a separate 10 percent evaluation for symptomatic removal of semilunar cartilage.

The Veteran's PTSD with Major Depressive Disorder resulted in total occupational and social impairment throughout the appeal period prior to July 7, 2021. The Veteran is granted a 100% disability rating for this condition.

The Veteran's claim of service connection for depression has been reopened. The Board finds that new and material evidence has been submitted so that the previously denied claim is reopened. Other claims are REMANDED for further development.

The Veteran's PTSD is rated at 70 percent, effective August 6, 2008. The Board also granted a TDIU from October 1, 2009.

The Veteran's claim for a higher rating for PTSD was denied, and the effective date of the award is set at September 1, 2010.

The Veteran's PTSD symptoms caused occupational and social impairment with deficiencies in most areas, such as work, family relations, thinking, and mood. The Board granted a rating of 70 percent for PTSD prior to December 15, 2011.

The Board has remanded four issues related to PTSD: the effective date for service connection, the initial rating, and the earlier effective dates for TDIU and DEA. The issues are considered intertwined.

The Veteran's service-connected hearing loss, lumbar spine disability, and PTSD with major depressive disorder have prevented him from securing or following a substantially gainful occupation. A TDIU is granted from September 29, 2008 to February 17, 2021.
