Allergic rhinitis decisions — 2019

The Board has remanded the cases of residuals of nose fracture, sinusitis with headaches, and allergic rhinitis due to inadequate examinations. The Veteran needs another VA examination to determine the current severity of these conditions.

The Board has granted service connection for chronic low back pain and denied the claims for allergic rhinitis, respiratory disability, and sinusitis due to exposure to burn pits in Southwest Asia. The Veteran's chronic low back pain is related to his military service, but his preexisting allergic rhinitis was not aggravated by service.

The Board has decided to remand the Veteran's claims for a higher rating for degenerative arthritis of the lumbar spine and allergic rhinitis. The Veteran's service-connected asthma is claimed to be the cause of his obstructive sleep apnea, but a VA examiner found no causal link. The Board has ordered a new examination and opinion to address this issue.

The Board denied the Veteran's claim for a rating in excess of 0 percent for his perennial allergic rhinitis, finding that the evidence did not meet the criteria for a higher rating.

The Veteran's service connection claims for obstructive sleep apnea and allergic rhinitis have been granted. The issue of a 10% evaluation based on multiple, noncompensable service-connected disabilities is remanded.
