Osteoarthritis (degenerative arthritis) decisions — 2010

The Veteran's initial claim for service connection for degenerative arthritis of the right knee was granted, and he is currently receiving a 10 percent evaluation. His claim for increased rating for his right knee instability has been partially granted with a 20 percent evaluation effective from March 3, 2010.

The Board has determined that the Veteran's current left ankle strain/sprain with calcifications and right knee degenerative arthritis are not related to service, and thus denied his claims for service connection.

The impairment does not exceed that of moderate bilateral pes planus.,The Veteran's left wrist ganglion cyst has not been surgically treated and does not meet the criteria for a compensable evaluation as there are no significant symptoms or functional impairment.

The Board granted a rating of 40 percent for the Veteran's right ulnar nerve injury, which is more severe than the current 30 percent rating. The initial rating for degenerative arthritis of the right hand remains at 10 percent.

The Veteran's appeal involves multiple conditions related to knee and elbow osteoarthritis, as well as neurological disorders of the upper and lower extremities. The issues are all secondary to herbicide exposure (presumably burn pit exposure). The Board has remanded for additional STRs from September 1988 to March 1989.
