Asbestosis decisions — 2003

The Board found no current evidence of asbestosis and denied the veteran's claim for service connection.

The veteran's service-connected asbestosis is not manifested by a Forced Vital Capacity (FVC) of less than 81% of predicted value or a Diffusion Capacity of the Lung for Carbon Monoxide by a Single Breath Method (DLCO (SB)) of less than 81% of predicted value, thus he does not meet the criteria for an initial compensable rating.

The Board of Veterans' Appeals has determined that the veteran's service connection claim for asbestosis is granted, with no specific rating assigned and no effective date provided. The appeal was based on a diagnosis of asbestosis by Dr. Sharpe in July 1990, which was supported by evidence of asbestos exposure during military service.
