Glaucoma decisions — 2008

The Board has granted the veteran's claim for secondary service connection for his left eye disability, finding that it is proximately due to and aggravated by his service-connected toxoplasmosis.

The Board has denied the veteran's claims for service connection for glaucoma, bilateral foot disability, and bilateral ankle disability. The claim for initial compensable evaluations for hypertension and osteoarthritis of the left knee is pending.

The Board found that the veteran's Type II diabetes mellitus, left knee arthritis, and right eye glaucoma are not related to his service. The claims for these conditions were denied.

The veteran's conditions do not meet the criteria for special monthly pension based on need for regular aid and attendance or by reason of being housebound.

The veteran's left eye injury and associated conditions are being reviewed for a higher rating, as the current rating of 30 percent is not sufficient to reflect his ongoing symptoms and medical needs.

The veteran does not have any of the claimed conditions and there is no evidence to support a finding that these conditions are related to service or exposure to herbicides.

The Board has determined that new and material evidence has not been received to reopen the veteran's previously denied claim for service connection for glaucoma.

The Board dismissed the veteran's motion for revision of a July 2002 rating decision denying service connection for glaucoma due to lack of clear and unmistakable error, as there was no evidence of glaucoma in his service records at that time.

The Board has remanded the case to the RO for further development, including obtaining treatment records and scheduling an examination. The veteran's claim for service connection for primary open angle glaucoma is pending.
