Parkinson's disease Board decisions

The Veteran was granted an effective date of July 8, 2008 for the grant of service connection for chronic sinusitis. Other claims were denied.

The Board remands the claim for a medical opinion to determine if there is a nexus between the Veteran's essential tremors and neurodegenerative disease, claimed as parkinsonism, and his service, including exposure to Agent Orange.

The Veteran was granted a 100 percent disability rating for Parkinson's disease (PD) with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and Insomnia, effective March 25, 2021.

The Board granted service connection for abnormal brain MRI (bilateral basal ganglia lesions, ventriculomegaly, and moderate atrophy) with REM behavior sleep disorder due to exposure to contaminated drinking water at Camp Lejeune. The essential tremors claim was remanded.

The Board also granted service connection for PTSD effective April 21, 2019, and awarded TDIU from that date.

The Board denied the veteran's claims for increased ratings and effective dates, as well as remanded several issues related to Parkinson's disease and associated conditions.

The Board granted service connection for hypertension, PTSD, and peripheral neuropathy of the upper and lower extremities effective March 29, 2022. The claim for a back condition was remanded for further development.

The Board granted a 100 percent disability rating for neurocognitive disorder associated with progressive supranuclear palsy with parkinsonism and granted special monthly compensation based on the regular need for aid and attendance due to both conditions.

The Board denied a rating greater than 30 percent for the Veteran's cervical strain with degenerative arthritis and intervertebral disc syndrome, but granted a 40 percent rating for left upper extremity radiculopathy and a 30 percent rating for right upper extremity radiculopathy. The claims for service connection for a Parkinson's-like condition, earlier effective dates, and TDIU were denied.

The Board granted an earlier effective date of May 2, 2019, for the grant of service connection for Parkinson's disease.

The Board granted an effective date of October 26, 2023, for service connection of Parkinsonism, with major depression, neurocognitive disorder, dementia, and insomnia disorder.
