Sarcoidosis decisions — 2024

The Veteran's left lower extremity scar is granted a 10% rating effective August 10, 2016. Service connection for pulmonary sarcoidosis is also granted.

The Board denied service connection for a respiratory condition, including fibrotic lung changes, bronchiectasis, and COPD, as secondary to sarcoidosis. The evidence did not support a finding that the Veteran's current conditions were related to his in-service treatment or service.

The Board has granted service connection for asthma, claimed as sarcoidosis, effective prior to August 9, 2023. Sarcoidosis was not found and the Veteran's respiratory issues are attributed to asthma.

The Veteran's pancreatic cancer and sarcoidosis are granted as service-connected due to exposure to burn pits during his service in the Southwest Asia Theater of Operations. The cause of death is also granted, with the pancreatic cancer being considered the immediate cause.

The Board has remanded the claims for service connection for a skin condition and benign prostatic hypertrophy due to inadequate medical opinions. The Veteran's skin conditions include cutaneous sarcoidosis, seborrheic dermatitis, eczema, xerosis, asteatotic eczema, and pityriasis rosea. The Board also found the medical opinions regarding the Veteran's BPH were inadequate.
